Wildcrafted, not pool-grown
Our moss grows on natural substrate in open water and is cut by hand. It is not grown in enclosed pools or tanks, and it is never bleached.
That distinction matters commercially, because pool-grown moss is often sold as wildcrafted. Two things usually give it away: pool-grown moss tends to be unusually uniform in colour and strand thickness, and it rarely carries the sand and shell fragments that open-sea moss picks up and that cleaning has to remove.
One honest caveat about seasons. You will read that year-round wildcrafted supply is a red flag. That advice comes from the North Atlantic, where Chondrus crispus — true Irish moss — has a harvest season. Caribbean sea moss is a different genus in different water and does grow year-round, so continuous wildcrafted supply from Saint Lucia is normal rather than suspicious. Ask any supplier which species they are actually selling you.
From the sea to your pallet
Harvested by hand. Cut from open water around the island, not stripped from the substrate, so the beds regrow.
Sun-dried. Laid out on raised racks and turned until it is dry and brittle. Sun drying is slower than a mechanical dryer and is what keeps the strand structure and colour intact.
Two-phase cleaned. Sand, grit and the salt crust that forms during drying are removed in two passes. This is the step that separates usable trade moss from moss you will spend hours rinsing yourself.
Graded and sorted. Separated by colour and strand size so what you receive is consistent within a lot, rather than a mixture you have to sort before you can use it.
Packed for the volume you ordered. Sealed pouches for samples, lined sacks for commercial bands, palletised and wrapped for pallet orders.

What a pound actually makes
The figure quoted across the trade is roughly 12 to 15 sixteen-ounce jars of gel per dried pound. Treat that as a rule of thumb rather than a specification. Your real yield moves with soak time, water ratio and how thick you run the gel, and a thinner gel stretches further at the cost of texture.
Run a single pound through your own process and count the jars before you build a price list on someone else’s number.
Testing and documentation
A Certificate of Analysis is available on request, tied to the specific batch you are buying. We send it by email against your order rather than publishing a generic one, because a COA that is not matched to your lot tells you nothing about what is in your sack.
Ask for it on your quote request and it comes back with the quote. If you are importing, put the destination country on the request too and we will confirm which export and import documents your shipment needs — and which of them we supply — before you commit.
Storing it once it lands
Keep it cool, dry, sealed and out of direct sunlight and dried sea moss holds for a year or more. Moisture ends its life, not time.
Signs a batch has been stored badly, whoever it came from: a musty or sour smell instead of a clean sea smell, strands that feel limp or leathery rather than brittle, visible mould, or sand that gritty-crunches when you press a handful.
What to check in anyone’s sea moss
These are the questions we would ask a supplier, and they are fair to ask us:
- Species. Caribbean sea moss is not Chondrus crispus. If a seller uses “Irish moss” and “Caribbean sea moss” interchangeably, find out what is actually in the bag.
- Sand and grit. Press a handful. Crunch means cleaning was skipped.
- Salt crust. A heavy white bloom is unremoved sea salt, and you are paying for it by weight.
- Smell. Clean sea, not ammonia and not must.
- Dryness. Properly dried moss snaps. Anything bendy has moisture in it and a shorter life than you were told.
- Colour uniformity. Some variation is normal and expected in wildcrafted moss. Perfect uniformity is a question worth asking.
- Batch-matched COA. Not a generic certificate from a previous lot.
- Proof of origin. Anyone can print “Saint Lucia” on a label.

What is your minimum order?
Sampling starts at a single pound so you can test it against your own recipe before committing. Commercial bands start at 10 lb and run up to full pallets. Tell us the volume you are working towards and we will quote the band that fits.
Can I get a sample before placing a bulk order?
Yes. A one-pound sample is the normal way to start — soak it, run your gel, check the yield and the taste, then come back for a commercial band once you know it works for you.
Is your sea moss wildcrafted or pool-grown?
Wildcrafted. It grows on natural substrate in the open sea off Saint Lucia and is cut by hand. We do not grow in pools or tanks, and we do not bleach. If a supplier’s moss is uniformly pale and perfectly even, ask how it was grown and dried.

Which variety should I buy?
